Niamey P. Wilson MD FACS
Niamey P. Wilson MD FACS has recently joined Hartford Healthcare, as the new Director of Research and Quality for Breast Surgery. She is the primary breast surgical lead for the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Alliance in the Hartford HealthCare Breast Cancer Program. Dr. Wilson is Board Certified in General Surgery, and has advanced fellowship training in breast surgical oncology.
She is thrilled to work with the outstanding Hartford HealthCare breast cancer clinicians to provide superior care to breast health patients.

She graduated from Hamilton College with a BA in Mathematics. She attended Columbia University Medical School, College of Physicians and Surgeons (P&S). She then completed 7 years of general surgery residency at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania. During this time, she was selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar and obtained a Masters Degree in Health Policy Research from UPenn. She then pursued a career in breast surgical oncology, and completed a fellowship in breast surgery, also at UPenn.
Dr. Wilson specializes in all aspects of breast health and the surgical management of complex breast diseases. She sees patients with newly diagnosed or a previous history of breast cancer, benign breast masses and cysts, abnormal imaging, fibrocystic breast disease, those with genetic susceptibility or at high risk for breast cancer, and many others. Her extensive knowledge of novel and up-to-date treatment modalities for breast cancer is an asset to her practice and her patients. In addition, her technical skills, encompassing hidden scar techniques, nipple-sparing mastectomy, oncoplastic surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and other minimally invasive techniques leads to outstanding clinical and aesthetic outcomes for patients.
Dr. Wilson’s approach to her patients is comprehensive and thoughtful. She believes deeply in developing a strong bond with her patients. She is a firm and committed advocate for her patients’ health; she is frequently an invited guest at major television networks including NBC-CT, Fox 61, WFSB, WTNH, as well as numerous radio shows, to promote breast health and breast cancer awareness. Prior to her Hartford HealthCare appointment, she was the Chief of Breast Surgery at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford CT.
She has an active social media presence and has authored several articles as a Huffington Post Contributor, including a moving piece about a horrific car accident she witnessed while driving to work one day. She is the mother of three children and a gregarious dog, and writes often about managing the balance of work and home. Her husband, F. Perry Wilson MD MSCE, is an academic nephrologist and the Director of the Program of Applied Translational Research at the Yale School of Medicine.
